I qualified as a robotics engineer in 1987 and I have been working in the field of automation ever since. I graduated from Manchester MET, attaining a 1st and finishing second in my year. The education I received at this university gave me an excellent foundation knowledge of this subject and allowed me to progress in my chosen field. Automation is something that has fascinated me since I was a little boy and it is something that still fascinates me to this very day. As a child I was a huge fan of the Robocop movies and I thought one day I would be engineering machines such as this. This was obviously a childish view of the world of robotics but a lot of the projects I am working on at the moment are quite similar. Perfecting the motion of a robot is something that intrigues me, as I feel we fall short in terms of what we achieve at present. This is why I have focused my studies on movement and lab automation, as I feel we can make the biggest strides in these areas.
